Tucker now and then…
Written by Greg on January 31, 2007 – 8:50 am -Three years ago today Tucker joined our family. We adopted him from A Forever Home in Northern Virginia. I remember we closed on the Dumfries house on January 28th and picked Tucker up the following weekend. So I give you two pictures:

Tucker’s first trip to Colonial Williamsburg…
Written by Greg on January 7, 2007 – 9:35 am -
So taking advantage of the summer like weather in January, Cindy and I brought Tucker over to the Colonial area last night (after dinner time). He was a bit nervous to start, but did relatively well on the leash. We sat for a bit near one of the restaurants in Merchant Square in hopes that Tucker would get use to people walking by…unfortunately, Tucker managed to put himself underneath the bench. We made our way down Duke of Gloucester Street and around the palace. We sat a bit more right by Bruton Parish Church and Tucker did surprisingly well. We continued down to the bookstore and needless to say, he did wonderfully.
We’re going to continue these little excursions throughout the winter while Williamsburg is in its off season to get him ready for the tourists come spring.

Levi the terror…
Written by Greg on May 18, 2006 – 8:00 pm -Our neighbor just put in a little patio and ordered new patio furniture. This morning when we put Tucker out, this is what we saw…Levi had picked up the lounge, dragged it out into the yard and was swinging it around. We tried to distract Levi with a tennis ball, since what dog doesn’t like a good tennis ball, but he wasn’t having any of it. Cindy went to the fence to have a heart to heart with Levi, advising him he needs to be good or he might find himself without a home. But, this morning, we saw the same thing…poor little guy might wind up having his biscuts packed if he isn’t careful.

Weekend update…
Written by Greg on April 17, 2006 – 7:07 am -I know, kinda sounds likes Saturday Night Live, except what happens in our life is actually funny sometimes
- After my final volunteer day with AARP Tax Aide, we went to Short Pump in Richmond on Saturday. Short Pump is an upscale outdoor mall on the north west side of Richmond. We went to Crate and Barrel, where we found a great cabinate for our family room. We then headed over to Pottery Barn and found a nice rug for our living room. We have been looking for one since before Christmas. And then, it was my turn. We headed down to Apple and picked me up a little something. Busy day subsidized by some over payments (and a good accountant) to the uncle sam this year.
- Sunday, we did very little of anything. We did have a little visitor come buy. Around 5p or so, Tucker was absolutely freaking out, we couldn’t figure out what was going on and then we noticed a little beagle puppy in our neighbors yard (they don’t own a dog). The little guy had no tags, but was clean and well kept, so we figured he just got loose from someone’s yard. I checked with our neighbor to make sure they weren’t pet sitting for someone and then we brought the little guy over to our house and gave him some water and treats. Snoopy as we called him and Tucker had a great time running around the yard and playing. Cindy suggested I walk him around the neighborhood and see if I could find the owner, so I did. I got two houses down and while talking to our neighbors, a woman in an SUV came up the street. Winston (not Snoopy) apparently got loose from the yard. She was thankful.
So a relatively uneventful Easter weekend in Williamsburg. How was your weekend?

Adding to the list…
Written by Greg on May 29, 2005 – 7:02 pm -Well we have another Italian restaurant to add to our list of “Best around the country”
It all started when we were in San Francisco several years ago and we found an ad for a restaurant called Cafe Riggio. It was located off the beat and path (actually a few miles from Union Square. The food was simply amazing and the atmosphere was welcoming and warm. While in Chicago not to long ago, we found a great place called Volare. Again, incredible food and awesome atmosphere. About a month ago, we found a place in Dumfries (of all places) call Tizano’s, right off US 234 (about 1.5 miles from the house) and tonight we add Lucia Ristorante located in the North End of Boston at 415 Hanover Street, just amazing.
As we wind down our trip and get ready to head to Logan in the early morning, I just want to thank Stella, who very graciously accepted Tucker at the last moment when our kennel refused him because he was a month over due for his shots. Mind you when I made the reservation about a month and a half ago there was no mention that shots would be an issue…and when I pointed that out the response I got was that well, he didn’t need them when you made the reservation. Any of you in the Woodbridge/Dumfries area, I can not urge you enough NOT to deal with River Oaks Animal Hospital, the women the other morning were simply rude. On the other hand, I can’t say enough good things about the Dumfries Animal Hospital, though they are very busy…they have always been helpful and Friday was no exception.

The pets…
Written by Greg on September 6, 2004 – 6:52 pm -Many people have asked and we haven’t had a chance to share pictures of our family until now.
Tucker the latest addition to our family, came home the day after we moved into the new house. This picture is from the first week he was home. We adopted him from A Forever Home, he was rescued from a bad situation in Georgia. He is a Yellow Lab/German Shepard/Hound mix. He is a wonderfully affectionate big baby. His bark will scare ya, but then he will just run right up and lick you to death.
Zanzibar is a perfect Tabby cat, he has mood swings and is affectionate on his own terms. He is the middle child and acts the part. I adopted Zanzibar from the Washington Humane Society back in January of 2001. Cindy keeps telling me that he is the reason she fell in love with me, but I think it is my wit and charm…you decide.
Storm is the old lady of the group. She is a petite calico, tabby, persian mix. Cindy adopted her from a co-worker after his cat had kittens. Storm is the runt of the litter, but what she lacks in size, she makes up for in attitude, she’s got spunk.
