As many of you know Grandma (mother’s mom) passed away back in August. While cleaning our her apartment in Fishkill, we found hundreds of pictures dating back to the early 1900s. So I made a project of it, I spent a Saturday scanning all of them and putting them online. Some are simply fabulous, take a look at and let us know what you think…Shanley Family Pictures

As a part of the technology upgrade in the family room (a very small part of the over all budget if you can believe it), we decided to get rid of the 4 remotes we needed to control the TV and consolidate into 1. We (read I) decided to go with the Harmony 1000 with the RF extender, so we could keep the components of our system in the built-in and not have to worry about direct line of site. So we have had the remote in the house for months now…but as with most projects as soon as I run into an issue, instead of reading the manual I put it off to the side. Yesterday, while Cindy was on duty at the office, I made it my mission to get it up and running. So as of last night, we went from 4 remotes, to a single color touch screen unit…pretty darn sweet. I am sure it will require a little tweaking over the next couple of days and I do want to get the overhead fan/light working with it, simply for the coolness factor. Here is a little picture of our new remote.

I was getting a little bored with the old theme…so its time for something new! The picture across the top is one that we took while in Banff back in October.

While Christmas has come and gone, we have some great memories of the holiday with our families. On Sunday, December 22 we made our way up to Washington, DC for a couple of days with mom and Stephen. We stayed at the Omni Shoreham hotel, it was nice and the service was excellent. On Christmas morning we made our way up to Toms River, New Jersey to spend time with Cindy’s family. Cindy’s mom is retiring this year (today actually) and will be enjoying 2008 and beyond as a retiree. After a couple of days in New Jersey we made the trek back down I-95 stopped in traffic at the Wilson Bridge and I-95 South near Dumfries, we made it back to Williamsburg late yesterday afternoon.

While it was great to see everyone, it was very nice to be back in our own bed. I wonder if we will be able to make it till midnight on New Years Eve?
