Death by hanging…

Written by Greg on November 5, 2006 – 11:33 am -

According to the BBC World News, Saddam Hussein has been sentenced to death by hanging. What a way to go…in the last few seconds of your life you hear your neck snap and people cheering. No doubt President and former President Bush would like to be in the front row of that event. While it is clear that Saddam Hussein is an evil man and deserves what eternity will bring to him, it is unclear to me why the Presidents Bush have a personal vendetta against the man and risked our troops and invade a country under false pretense, you all remember the term weapons of mass destruction don’t you? Perhaps we have our own WMDs here in the states, though the acronym translates to weapons of mass deception.
While I believe the world will be a better place without Saddam Hussein, we ought to look at the cost our sons and daughters in Iraq had to pay so President Bush could say “Daddy, I did what you told me to do…I got that Saddam guy you always talk about, can I sit at the head of the table for Thanksgiving?”

Well, I’m not a fan of the current administration, but I have to wonder what course I might take were I the president faced with despots like Jong-Il and Hussein. The whole UN Security Council debacle leading up to the Iraq invasion is a valuable teaching point, I think, for anyone who advocates diplomacy in dealing with dictators. On the other hand, I don’t know that I want my government blowing up every nutcase leader without first gaining some kind of consensus on the issue. It sure is difficult.
